The famous Chamonix valley stretches from Vallorcine down to Servoz. Lying just 8km is the lively town of Les Houches which nestles in between the steep sides of the valley.
 Les Houches church Les Houches is well served by a free train that starts in Le Fayet and terminates in Martigny, Switzerland. The local bus network links the valley effectively dropping you at the ski lifts and for those who have purchased a weekly ski pass, there is no charge. The transport links run in the summer as do selective ski lifts that enable you enjoy the staggering views and walks in the high mountains. Les Houches is fortunate to boast its own ski resort that for the last two years has been host to the Men's World Cup Alpine Ski Downhill race on the famous Khandahar Black run. The event is always well attended and exudes a great atmosphere. The event is free to all those except those who wish to buy tickets to sit at the finish line. In the winter there are two cross country pistes, an open air ice rink, one nursery slope in the village and a 'jardin de neige' with creche for little ones learning to ski.
