Travelling to and from France Road The main autoroutes in France are toll roads and as such require you to pay. Payment can be made in cash or by your bank/credit card in the automatic machines. Speed limits on the French autoroutes are 130 KM/hr in good weather. In the rain it drops to 110km/hr. Speed camera’s are becoming increasingly popular and any fines are being pursued in the home country. If you are travelling through Switzerland on the autoroute you will be required to purchase of a ‘vignette’. This vignette allows you access to all the autoroutes on the Swiss motorway network for 12 months. The cost is 40 CHF – approximately £18. If you are hiring a car from the Swiss side of Geneva, do check that your car has a vignette. The speed limit in Switzerland is 120km/hr and this is enforced. |
