Just a short distance away from Chamonix town are beautiful communes that make up the valley including Servoz, Les Houches, Les Bossons , Les Praz, Les Tines, Argentiere, Montroc and Vallorcine. View to the Grand Montets Chamonix has plenty to see. The Montenvers railway runs all year round taking tourists and alpinists to the famous Mer de Glace at a height of 1913m. Once at the top you can take a trip down to the glacier and explore the ice grotto. The Mer de Glace is one of the longest glaciers in Europe and makes part of the longest off piste ski run in Europe, the Vallée Blanche. The Aiguille de Midi sits at 3842m and is a play ground for mountaineers and for many the start of a Mont Blanc ascent.
